So I got a good friend who asked me if i wanted to test out the iphone 3.0 firmware beta, so i said why the heck not? Smile and now here i am, after roughly 2 weeks of active use, happy as ever, and relying 100% on the features it provides.

there isn't as many new features in the iPod as in the iPhone version, I'm only stuck with iPod cause that's what i got
The home screen looks the same, with some tiny differences(one not shown in the screenshot, but the app is shown later)

mainly the only difference is that you got a tiny spotlight icon on the bottom page indicator, if you slide to the left you get access to spotlight:

this thing searches everything by default. Mail, contacts, sms(if your on a iphone), music, bookmarks, and history.

Now the seccond bigest new thing for iPod users is Voice Memos(dunno if iphone had this, but i think it had)

It do require a iPhone headset or the new Shuffle headset(with the controls), and works quite simply just press the red button and record, press the listing and you can view the recordings you've done.

now, back to spotlight a bit:

as you can see, it's available practically everywhere you'd need to search Smile

Here's a few more features podcast related:

from left to right, first is mail-to, this links to the itunes page of the podcast you're listening to, use this to for example tell friends about how awesome Eddie Izzard is , second is used to jump 30 secs back, which is pretty nice, instead of the 10 sec it sort of dose at random where you got no control, last is podcast speed, this setting allow you to speed up a bit(twice as fast, or half speed), useful if you can't be bothered to use the next function:

Scrubbing, you could do this before too, but only at real-time speed, which made it hard to fine scrub to the place you wanted to listen/watch from, so by sliding your finger down from the bar you can control the scrubbing speed.

Bluetooth! I haven't gotten it to work properly yet, but I'm not even sure if it's supposed to work yet(kind of like MMS in beta 1-2 for iphone)

now there is a new feature on the main settings menu, called store, this is ment to let you get a quick overview of your itunes account, not that good looking yet(just a badly formatted embedded webkit view) and not functional.

i just downloaded it its AWESOME the landscape typing mode on the iphone is soooooo much easier to use i love it
my camara broke so i cant test that other wise the phone function bit is reallly good and you can delete individual messages now :DD thumbs up to apple and to quickpwn so i can jailbreak it hehe

Well it works like before, except you can _finally_ follow your subscriptions etc. by logging in(kind of like the way you log in to itunes/appstore on the iPhone/iPod)

My personal opinion on 3.0 is AMAZING. i am on 3.0 beta 4 with my 3G and i love it. The only reason i jailbreak is for sbsettings winterboard and cycorder

was wondering.... if u jailbreak, there is still no way to actually install a cr@ck app right? as the is no mobile installation patch yet for 3.0... correct me if i'm wrong...

mark: I guess it'll be similar to the jump between 1.x and 2.x where 1.x had summerboard and 2.x had winterboard

lann_78: afaik you don't need a mobile installation patch on ipod touch 2g there isn't even a publicly available jailbreak yet.

Is there any way to get Bluetooth without buying the new update? (Like in some jailbroken application)
Because Apple is retarded and has to make their updates cost money... don't see this crap with the zune...

But anyways, Bluetooth is already in the device, it's just Apple telling it to work with the new update, so hopefully someone can figure out a way to make it work. That's the update I'm most excited for, that makes me almost want to spend the freaking $10 for stuff that (for the most part) should have been free.

3.0 is being a **Censored** lol i had to restore about 4 times. In fact i had to restore just now. I hope the next update doesn't have so many bugs. Other than that, its pretty nice.

I've been on the GM version since it was released, not that many issues, still having issues with wifi, but I had that on 2.2.1 so guess that's more my house to blame

i say 3.0 isnt anything special i was excited bout it but it seems incomplete, pretty buggy idk i guess 3.0.1 should be coming out soon with fixes for sorts of things
